The Archery Championships of Turkmenistan was held at the Ashgabat Winter Sports Complex recently. Over 50 athletes from the national sports schools took part in the tournament, which was jointly organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan and the National Archery Federation. The first event was a team competition for the athletes born in 2007 and older athletes. Thus, Ayna Orazgeldiyeva, Ylyas Orazgeldiyev and Vadim Merzlikin won the event. Shohrat Jumakuliyev, Kowsar Abbasova, Didar Yazgeldiyev took the second place; Jorakuly Jumayev, Fahreddin Ishchanov and Rahym Gurbanov won the third place. In the final round, the athletes born in 2008 and younger competed in the 12-metre recurve archery event. The competition was very close and revealed the best archers. Thus, Ezizmuhammet Sahedov, a student from the Ashgabat Sports School 5, scored 598 points and won the event. Alymuhammet Dosov (Ashgabat) took the second place with 569 points, and Yhlas Haknazarov entered the top three. E.Sahedov, A.Dosov and Enay Reyimova won the single 12-metre archery event in the same age group.
Later on, the athletes born in 2004-2007 competed in the 18-metre recurve archery event. Gurban Gurbanov (Ashgabat) scored the most points and won the first place, Bahbit Gurbanov (Ashgabat) took the second place, and Abilfaz Imamberdiyev (Mary Velayat) entered the top three. Maede Abbasova, Abilfaz Imamberdiyev and Bahbit Gurbanov won the single 18-metre recurve archery event in the same age group.
Agajan Gullashov (Sports School 5), Shohrat Jumakuliyev (Dashoguz Velayat) and Vepa Sahedov (the National Archery Federation) had no equals in the 18-metre archery event for the athletes born in 2003 and older athletes. Vepa Sahedov, Agajan Gullashov and Polat Metdiyev (Lebap Velayat) demonstrated the best results in the single event.
Vepa Sahedov, Shohrat Jumakuliyev and Agajan Gullashov triumphed in the 70-metre recurve archery event for the athletes born in 2005 and older athletes. The same athletes won their opponents in the single event.
The Championship, refereed by the main judge Aleksandr Chemarin, included the 18-metre and 50-metre compound archery events. The athletes from the Ashgabat Sports School 5 Georgiy Agiyarov, Shirin Babayeva and Fahraddin Ishchanov scored the highest points.
The winners were awarded with the letters of honour and special Cups.
