Ashgabat is nominated for the inclusion in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the creative field Design.
The UNESCO Secretariat has formally accepted the application. Independent experts will review it in the next few months.
The UNESCO Director-General will announce the final decision on the inscription of nominations on the eve of the World Cities Day, which is observed on October 31, the Golden Age electronic newspaper reports.
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network was created in 2004 to foster international cooperation with and between cities committed to investing in creativity as a driver for sustainable urban development, social inclusion and cultural vibrancy. 246 cities currently make up this network.
The Network covers seven creative fields: Crafts and Folk Arts, Media Arts, Film, Design, Gastronomy, Literature and Music.
