The island state of Fiji, located in the South Pacific, for several days became the center of world weightlifting, taking from 1 to 8 June in its capital, the city of Suva, the World Junior Championships, in which about two hundred and fifty athletes from different countries take part.
The youth team of Turkmenistan is represented at this championship by four athletes, with whom three judges came.
At the competition in the weight category of 73 kg, a serious struggle broke out. As a result, our compatriot, 1st year student of the National Institute of Sport and Tourism of Turkmenistan, Maksat Meredov, rose to the third step of the podium.
The result of the sum of two exercises, which brought the Turkmen hero a bronze medal - 312 kg, respectively, in the snatch M. Meredov won 139 kg, and in the jerk - 173 kg.
The American Cummings J. Clarence (337 kg) became the winner in this weight in the total, the second place was taken by the athlete from Moldova Roby Marin (320 kg).
World Junior Weightlifting Championship continues. The national team of Turkmenistan, inspired by the current achievement, will continue to fight for awards.
