Turkmen Wrestlers Win 28 Medals at the Gores and Alysh Tournament in Ashgabat

The Turkmenistan national team won a total of 28 medals at the international tournament in national wrestling styles — Gores and belt wrestling Alysh — held in Ashgabat. Turkmen athletes earned 12 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

On the first day of the competition, Turkmen wrestlers claimed 14 medals in Gores, a traditional national wrestling style. They then went on to win another 14 medals in Alysh — a form of belt wrestling with a fixed grip that has gained wide international recognition in recent years.

Currently, the World Alysh Federation (WAF), established in 2002 and headquartered in Bishkek, includes 36 national federations from various continents.

The tournament, which brought together participants from 13 countries across Europe and Asia, was held as part of the program celebrating Ashgabat’s designation as the «City of New Sports Opportunities of the Commonwealth». This title was granted to the Turkmen capital by the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS in May 2024.
